With around 7.5 to 8.5 kWh/kg, hard coal delivers the highest calorific value of all solid fuels. It burns slowly, very hot and holds the embers for many hours – the classic fuel for coal stoves, slow-combustion stoves, workshop stoves and kitchen ranges with the appropriate approval. HEIZFUXX® hard coal is screened, low-dust and cleanly packed in 20 kg bags.

Important – the approval: hard coal may only be burned in fireplaces approved for coal according to the type plate. Modern wood stoves are generally approved for wood and wood briquettes only; coal damages the grate and firebrick there. If in doubt, ask your chimney sweep.

Heating properly with hard coal: build up a bed of embers with kindling and wood briquettes, then add coal in a thin layer. Primary air from below, reduce secondary air. Empty the ash pan regularly – coal leaves 4 to 8 % ash.

Hard coal or wood briquettes?

For wood stoves in the living room, wood briquettes are the right choice: approved, clean, climate-neutral. Hard coal is the fuel for the workshop, the slow-combustion stove and the coal-fired range – wherever maximum energy density and hours of embers count. Note: hard coal is a fossil fuel and subject to the national CO₂ price. For climate-neutral heating we recommend wood pellets, wood briquettes and firewood from certified forestry.
